Fade sun damage and redness, without the downtime

Pulses of light break up the sun spots and redness sitting under your skin, so your tone evens out without a day off.

The Treatment

Clearer, more even skin one pulse at a time

Sun spots, flushing, and fine broken capillaries do not fade on their own. IPL targets them directly.

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. Rather than resurfacing the whole surface of your skin, it sends broad-spectrum light down past it, where the energy is absorbed by the darker pigment in sun spots and by the blood inside visible vessels. That absorbed energy breaks the target apart so your body can clear it away.

Because the light passes through the surface rather than removing it, there is very little to recover from. Most guests come in for a series of sessions spaced about a month apart, with the change building each time.

What It Treats

Built for sun damage and redness

Years of Missouri summers leave their mark as freckling, brown patches, and an uneven tone that makeup keeps having to cover. IPL goes after that pigment specifically, which is why it tends to make the biggest difference for people who have spent real time outdoors.

It works on redness too. Persistent flushing across the cheeks and nose, and the fine broken capillaries that come with it, respond to the same treatment, because the light is absorbed by the vessels themselves.

The Benefits

What an IPL photo facial can address

Sun Spots & Freckling

Brown patches and age spots darken, then flake away over the days after treatment.

Redness & Capillaries

Persistent flushing and fine visible vessels calm down across a series of sessions.

Minimal Downtime

Expect some redness for about a day, then straight back to your normal routine.

Face, Neck & Hands

The areas that show sun exposure first can all be treated.

How It Works

Your session, step by step

We start by looking at your skin and talking through your history in the sun, so the settings are matched to your skin tone rather than a default. Protective shields go over your eyes for the whole session, and a cool gel goes on first.

The handpiece then moves across the area in pulses. Most guests describe each one as a quick snap, like a rubber band against the skin, over almost as soon as you feel it. A full face takes about as long as a lunch break.

In the Session

  • Protective eye shields on
  • Cooling gel applied
  • Pulses across the area

The Days After

  • Mild redness for about a day
  • Spots darken, then flake off
  • Return in about a month
Care That Fits You

Where IPL fits in your skin plan

IPL handles tone. For texture, firmness, and fine lines, guests often pair it with Scarlet RF or PRF microneedling, and keep things steady in between with a medical facial. Reach out and we will map out the right order for you.

FAQ

IPL questions, answered

What does an IPL photo facial treat?

IPL is most effective on sun damage and redness. That means brown sun spots and age spots, freckling from years of sun exposure, persistent flushing across the cheeks and nose, and the fine broken capillaries that often come with it. It is a tone treatment rather than a texture treatment, so deep lines and scarring are better handled by microneedling or Scarlet RF.

How many sessions will I need?

Most guests plan on a series of sessions spaced about a month apart rather than a single visit. The light works in stages, clearing a portion of the pigment each time, and spacing the sessions out lets your skin process what was treated before the next round. We will give you a realistic number for your skin at your consultation.

Does IPL hurt?

Most guests describe each pulse as a quick snap, similar to a rubber band flicked against the skin, and it is over almost as soon as you feel it. The treatment head is cooled and we apply a cool gel first, which takes most of the edge off. Nobody needs numbing for it.

Is IPL safe for every skin tone?

No, and this is worth being straightforward about. IPL works by targeting pigment, so it is best suited to lighter skin tones where there is a clear contrast between the spot and the surrounding skin. On deeper skin tones the light can be absorbed too broadly, which raises the risk of unwanted lightening or darkening. We assess your skin at your consultation, and if IPL is not the right fit we will tell you and suggest an alternative that is.

What is the downtime?

Very little. Expect the treated area to look flushed for several hours to about a day, similar to a mild sunburn. Over the next few days the sun spots typically darken and look more obvious before flaking away on their own. Most guests plan around that briefly darker stage rather than around any real recovery.

When will I see results?

You will usually see the treated spots come to the surface within the first week as they darken and flake. The broader evening out of tone builds across your series rather than arriving all at once, so the fairest way to judge it is to compare where you started against where you are a few sessions in.

What do I need to do before and after?

Come in without a fresh tan or recent sun exposure, since treating recently tanned skin raises the risk of a reaction. Afterward, daily sunscreen matters more than usual. New sun exposure is what created the spots in the first place, and it is also what brings them back.
